The Hearne airport
has been a popular Texas launch site for several years.
The launch site location is just east of town.

The site waiver allows flights up to 8000 feet with call-ins to 12,500 feet. The site will accomodate flights up to M power. Call-ins are typically available at any time.

As with any location in Texas, mother nature has a few surprises for the unwary. First, expect hot weather and plan to keep yourself hydrated - pay attention to your water intake; don't rely on thirst to do it for you.
We have some heat safety information prepared by AARG member Lee James which can give you some good ideas for ways to keep the hot weather from spoiling your fun times. Even if you're experienced in coping with hot weather, please review it to refresh your memory.
The heat isn't the only thing monther nature has waiting for you. Expect fire ant mounds in the general area. Also, there is poison ivy and poison oak in the area, particularly in the recovery areas. Be sure you know what poison ivy looks like before you venture into heavy vegitation. Also, as with any place in Texas, when wandering through tall grass, be sure to keep an eye out for snakes.
